Note: The instructions below are for aligning an object (field, formula, label, line, shape, barcode, image, or subreport) already inserted into a custom report (and the Group Footer/Header sections, if applicable) in the Report Writer module.
Click the object (field, formula, label, line, shape, image, barcode, or subreport) for which to align.
Tip: After an object is selected, handles (boxes) will appear around the outside edges of the selected object. To select multiple objects to align at the same time, press and hold the Shift or Ctrl key and then select (click) all the desired items to align, or else click, drag, and drop a box (using your mouse) over all the desired objects. To select all objects within a section, click the title bar for the section and then press the Ctrl+A keys.
Note: If the report to edit is not yet open, first complete the following: from the Report Writer screen, click on the name of the view group in the Report Groups List that contains the report for which to align an object and click on the name of the report to edit in the Reports List (or click the Find button instead to search for the desired report); then click the Edit Record button located at the top of the screen.
Click the applicable button, or select the Alignment menu and then the desired formatting option:
Align to Grid - to move an object to the nearest grid lines
(dots) on a report.
Align Fields - to align multiple objects vertically and/or
horizontally in relation to the first object selected. After clicking
the Align Fields button, select
Lefts, Centers,
Rights, Tops,
Middles, or Bottoms
to specify the desired alignment.
Make Same Size - to make the width
and/or height of multiple objects the same as the first object selected.
After clicking the Make Same Size
button, select Width, Height,
or Both to specify which dimensions
to change.
Horizontal Spacing
- to adjust the horizontal spacing
between multiple objects. After clicking the Horizontal Spacing
button, select Equal,
Increase, Decrease,
or Remove.
Vertical Spacing
- to adjust the vertical spacing between
multiple objects. After clicking the Vertical Spacing button, select Equal,
Increase, Decrease,
or Remove.
Align in Section - to align an object (or multiple
objects) within the section. After clicking the Align in
Section button, select Left, Center,
Right, Top,
Middle, or Bottom.
Bring to Front - to move an object to the front
of the stacking order with other objects.
Send to Back - to move an object to the bottom
of the stacking order with other objects.
Move Group Up - to move
the order of the selected Group
Header or Group Footer
section for a group up one position (with
other groups) on the Edit Report screen.
Move Group Down - to move the order of the selected
Group Header or Group Footer section for a group down one position (with
other groups) on the Edit Report screen.
Fit To Page - to align all the objects on the report
to fit on the page.
Adjust Header Fields - to align the standard header
fields correctly within the Page
Header section of the report.
Lock Controls - to lock all the objects on the Edit
Report screen so they cannot
be moved or resized. Once the objects have been locked, the Lock Controls button displays as
selected. The objects will remain locked until the report is closed
and reopened, or the Lock Controls
button is clicked again.
The object will move or change according to the particular aligning selections made.
Click the Save button.
