Adding Negotiation Lanes

  1. From the Human Resources screen, select the Maintenance menu and then Negotiation Lanes.

  2. At the Negotiation Lanes screen, click the New Record button.

Note:  For any field equipped with the repeat function, click the Repeat button or press the Ctrl+R keys to repeat the previous entry for the specified field.  The repeat function is only available after your initial entry.

  1. Enter the ID of the package defined in Negotiations for which to enter the criteria for each lane in the Package ID field.  If the ID is not known, click the down-arrow button to select the correct one.

  2. Enter the ID of the lane for which to enter the criteria in the Lane field.  If the ID is not known, click the down-arrow button or the Find button to select the correct one.

  3. The description for the selected lane will appear in the Lane Description field, and can be changed if desired.  If the description is changed, the change will also be reflected in Negotiations.

Note:  The description can be up to 24 characters long, not including the lane number and brackets.  If the brackets and number are deleted, the system will automatically add them back in and truncate the description to 24 characters (if 25 or more characters were entered).

  1. Enter the educational criteria (for example, degree and credit hours) to use for the specified lane in the Degrees List, or the position titles in the Position Titles List.  Typically, information is only completed in either the Degrees List or the Position Titles List; however, information can be entered in both if needed.   

Note:  Both the Degree Type field and the Degree field cannot be completed for the same entry (row).

Note:  An employee will be placed in the specified lane if:  1) the employee has the degree (or degree type) and number of continuing education credits (if applicable) on the Education screen in the Employee File matching one listed under the Degrees List; or 2) the employee has a position on the Positions screen in the Employee File with a corresponding position title matching one listed under the Position Titles List and the Position Title ID field completed with that position title for the employee's pay code on the Wages screen in the Employee File.  Reminder, only the credit hours for courses listed on the Education screen in the Employee File with the Count Toward Education Level field selected and the Degree field blank will be included in the total of additional credit hours when placing an employee in the appropriate lane on a particular package (when calculating the FTE - Hours table).  If an employee would happen to match multiple lanes based on the criteria entered here (for example, from having multiple degrees), the employee is placed in the greatest lane.

  1. Click the Save button.

  2. Repeat Steps 4-7 until all the lanes have been completed for the particular package.
