SSN Verification Service

The SSN Verification Service option allows a user to verify the social security numbers for employees entered in the School Accounting System.  With the SSN Verification Service option, a file including the names, social security numbers, and birthdates of the specified employees is created.  The file is then submitted electronically via the Internet to the Social Security Administration for verification.  The Social Security Administration verifies that the social security number entered for each employee is correct (based on their name and birthdate).  The Social Security Administration then returns the results of the verification process to the user (via the Internet).  This service ensures that employee records submitted to the Internal Revenue Service are correct.

Note:  You must first sign up for the Social Security Number Verification Service (SSNVS) from within the Business Services Online (BSO) website, which will require a pre-authorization process, in order to submit the file to the Social Security Administration for verification.  For more information, go to http://www.ssa.gov/employer/ssnv.htm and complete the instructions under the Steps to Register for SSNVS section to register, request access, and request an activation code.
